I'll bet many of you are surprised to find this  still for sale. So are we! But it is for sale, and if you are interested, you can send an email to inquire what the status of this unit is currently.

This is the final version of the LaserMaster Unity 1800-O as it shipped from LaserMaster Corporation, along with IBM and Mac fonts (works with both Macintosh and on the PC under earlier versions of Windows and NT). It does not require a controller for the computer you are using (as the processor and the memory is inside the printer) and so it's a multiplatorm printer out of the box.  This unit has both Ethernet and LPT connections.

Like all of the Tabloid size printers from LaserMaster, this one also uses the Toshiba Tabloid size 1200 TurboRes print engine, and the supplies manufactured for the Toshiba A655 Printer Engine.

This particular unit has only seen light to moderate use as an in-store demo and therefore, has plenty of life left in it. In fact, it's in excellent condition. It was our in-store demo unit, and that's how we know that it's got quite a lot of life left in it.

The total package had an original price of $7995.. Available from Working Solutions for $495 plus freight.

Why is this unit priced at $495?

Here are the reasons. Unit is a dealer demo with about 30,000 copies run through it. As such, the processing unit (which contains the drum and developer for the printer is spent, and the purchaser will need to also purchase a new processing unit from Colorspan or other suppliers.

Also, the printer is out of production and no longer supported officially by Colorspan (formally LaserMaster Corp.). Software drivers are not upgradable and the printer can, therefore, only be used under the operating systems it was developed for (namely Windows 95, Windows NT versions 3.1 and Win NT 3.5 and earlier versions of Windows like Windows 3.1 and Windows For Workgroups).  If you require more up to date OS and DTP software, we recommend you look elsewhere for a high resolution Tabloid 12x19 inch PostScript printer.

It's not necessarily true that ColorSpan is not supporting Unity Products. On the ColorSpan web site, there is a document #3108 that lists the Colorspan Support Options for Unity Products  In the document, it mentions phone support as being available for $1 per minute at a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $30. That pricing may still be in effect.

Who should buy one? If you are using one already and want another for backup or to use when yours gives out, or want one in better condition than your current one is (because this one is practically new). Or, should you are looking for a very low price oversize 12x19-inch tabloid size Postscript printer.  Hey, this is a great printer. It's just got some of these unfortunate limitations. But if you fit the profile, this is a great price for a unity which is as excellent condition as this. It simply needs a new processing unit and toner to be ready to go.
